Spiggie Hotel is a small country hotel. Owner Keith Massey purchased the Spiggie in October 2007 after a spell of 18 years away from Shetland. During his time away, Keith traveled widely and stayed in some of the finest (and also some of the world’s worst hotels). His love of cooking, hospitality and the urge to return home, gave him the inspiration to provide an environment and experience for guests that will hopefully, surpass their expectations.

Spiggie has a welcoming bar where the quality of the beers and other refreshments are highly regarded. Spiggie is currently listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. So, after a hard day's walking, fishing or just relaxing why not try our selection of quality real ales, including ales from the local Valhalla Brewery in Unst. Meet our local community in the bar for drinks, a yarn and an occasional tune .

The Hotel was constructed towards the end of the nineteenth century and was extended and modified several times. It soon acquired an excellent reputation (which we strive to uphold today). By the 1930's steamers from Leith and Aberdeen (including the Earl of Zetland) anchored in the bay beyond the loch to transfer holidaymakers to the hotel, collecting them a week or two later.

Spiggie Hotel lies at the northeast corner of Spiggie Loch. Located 5 miles from Sumburgh Airport and, 20 miles from Lerwick . The loch is a Nature Reserve owned by the RSPB and is one of the finest trout fishing lochs in the Islands. Fishing is by permit only which costs £5/day or £25/season can be purchased at the hotel, we may also be able to arrange the use of a boat and Ghillie .

At the North end of the loch there is a hut owned by the RSPB on which is displayed the bird life which may be seen around the area. Opposite the hut is a track leading across the dunes to Scousburgh sands which offer a sheltered haven in which to relax and watch the seals swim parallel to the beach as they satisfy their curiosity about you. Spiggie Beach on the Northwest corner of the loch is renowned for its Sea trout fishing.
